Functional Maths

Maths Tutoring

Functional Skills in English and maths are the necessary prerequisites for learners to progress into further and higher education. They are a required component of Diplomas, Foundation Learning Programmes and Apprenticeships. They are an alternative to the traditional GCSE route and often chosen by adult learners returning to education for a second chance.

Functional Skills qualifications are available at Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2. As an approximate comparison, Entry Level 1 – 3 is below GCSE level, Level 1 is comparable to GCSE grades 1 – 3, and Level 2 is comparable to GCSE grade 4.

Functional skills are practical skills in English, mathematics and information and communication technology that allow individuals to operate confidently, effectively and independently in life and work.”

Department for Education and Skills

I have taught functional skills in colleges, in workplaces, in the community and in offender learning settings and know the curriculum requirements at every level.

On commencement of a course of study I will assess your current skills level then negotiate a plan for your sessions.

Check out the maths topic checklists to see what is expected at levels 1 and 2.
